Last Song Heard Syndrome...

...sometimes makes me want to pull my hair out by the roots. You know what I mean. You hear a certain song on the radio or in an elevator or in the doctor's office and it won't leave your mind no matter what you do. It's especially excruciating when it involves a song you don't like. I had a Last Song Heard Syndrome episode some years ago, one with the Titanic theme song by Celine Dion. Hearing it unwittingly everywhere caused me to memorize the damn lyrics, and it made me want to commit hara kiri because I liked neither the song nor the movie nor the artist.

But Last Sound Heard Syndrome, I can live with.

The sound of rain.
The sound of my girls' belly laughter.
The voice, wisecracks, and chuckles of a dear friend who'd had one drink too many.
The tune Stand By Me -- played by my son.

Yep, I can not only live with these things, but thrive on them. Because I love 'em.

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Hiiiii Liiiizzzz! =)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hated the song, the movie, and Celine herself.

on the other hand I LOVE "Darlin' Darlin' stand by me ooh stand by me."

i agree, the titanic theme song is the most irritating song i have heard, as far as i can remember.

Ah...now that is an adorable child. He's beautiful! I know you love to hear him sing.

I'm a musician and can take most any kind of music, but the Titanic theme is the WORST ever, just the worst. Thank you so much for putting it in my brain tonight (grin). Hey, at least I'm grinning.
Slowly but surely....

I like the idea of last sound syndrome. I'm working very hard now to find a sound to occupy my brain, because you went and mentioned that damn Titanic song and it's trying to take over now.

Oh good - I can go back to So You Think You Can Dance and distract myself now.

I'm giggling at HB's comment to you.

;P

Oh well, we all do experience that syndrome and I know how hard it is to get if off your mind.

HB: Hellooooo! Pero hayup ka talaga! :-D

Aisby: Cool! Now you got me humming it.

Photo: For me it's right up there on the irritation list with Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You and the song from Barney.

Mimi: A grin goes a long way, and I'm glad this post made you grin. :-)

Trav: It's an insidious song, I know. Thank heavens So You Think You Can Dance is there to the rescue!

Kyels: HB's wisecracks make me giggle too, haha! I hope Last Song Heard Syndrome doesn't distract you when you take pictures.

I can understand the beer bottle on the table because you never like to be too far from one but why is there a pair of 'Bridget Jones' pants hanging on the wall?
Oh and I can spot a bit of dust under the chair.

That was a commendable effort by HB.

This happens to me with a lot of annoying bollywood songs on the radio. But I can imagine how excruciating that titanic song must've been. :-)))

I LOVE Stand By Me.

DaddyP: You aren't wearing your glasses again, are you? That isn't a beer bottle, that's Mountain Dew! That isn't a pair of big pants, it's a pillow thing filled with teeny tiny balls. And that isn't dust under the chair. It's um, erm, ah, I don't know what it is.

H: Hmmm, a Bollywood song that annoys H...I wonder what that sounds like.

Lovely!

Sounds are really nice but they never stay with me long. Songs can remain for weeks.

Your son´s adorable! "Stand by me" is one of my favorite songs. I wish I could hear him!

Hey, Lizza! All the time I thought it was "Last Song Syndrome." "Last Song Heard Syndrome" pala.

There's actually a funny thread on this here: http://philmug.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=23038

I called it wrong there, of course. But I've already asked the mods to edit it.

Reading your blog is always fun. :)

Stand By Me is such an awesome song...even nicer when it's played live by a loved one. :)

FYI - It is called an Earworm when a song runs through your head like that.

PS The son is adorable!
