However, there are several cover songs that I do like, in a goosebumpy, rockin' way.
Julia Fordham's version of Minnie Riperton's Loving You. This one never fails to stop me in my tracks. Quite a few of her songs are on my playlist. Her voice enchants me. It's smooth and full like dark and rich chocolate.

Sonic Youth's haunting version of The Carpenters' Superstar. Found this via the movie "Juno." Me likey. A lot. (Both the movie and the song.) The drummer kinda looks like Bill Gates, which made me laugh.
***
Filipino artist Sitti Navarro's cover of D'Sound's Tattooed on My Mind. Sweet, sweet song in a sweet, sweet voice.
***
Prince's version of Kiss. This makes me dance, and I DON'T dance as a rule. 1980's nostalgia for those who came of age during that decade (like me!).

So these are four of my favorite covers...at this time, at least. I like them not only for how they sound but for the meaning they hold for me.
Yeah. These songs touch me deep inside. I'm shallow that way, deriving a bit of self-identity and gratification from songs sometimes. They don't really make me cry...but then, wasn't it Wordsworth who said that the something something lies too deep for tears? And no, DaddyP, I am NOT lusting after Prince.
What are your favorite cover songs these days? Let me know. Some musical artists (new and old) I've come to like I never would've heard of if not for terrific friends who wanted to share.

You've placed a gagging order on me!!
Please let me talk about goats and your love affair with *&*^&^% - formally known as Prince [and I do try to be formal].
I do like to think of you dancing though ....... so, after a lot of consideration, about a nano-second, I forgive you .......
One order of goat stew coming your way! I wish I had a love affair with a prince. Do you think the Prince of Timbuktu would be interested? I'd even dance, if he plays Prince's Kiss...or sing, if he has "Rock Me Amadeus" on karaoke.
I like babyface doing fire and rain (i believe) a james taylor original and queen latifah doing california dreaming (mamas and the papas)
Thanks, Photo. Will see if those covers are available for downloading. I like California Dreaming!
I love Sonic Youth and even though their original material is fantastic this is my all time favourite SY recording ever.
it was originally on an album of carpenter's covers before Juno picked it up.....
Hmmmm.... a love affair with a prince. That happened for me once. Or twice. I can't remember. But I DO remember HIM.
I've always loved Prince's music and stage presence. He is a fabulous musician.
Currently into the "Spirit" CD by Leona Lewis, particularly "Bleeding Love" and "Here I Am"
She also does a wonderful cover of "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face"....
I'll be back to have a listen later.
Peace!
Nina Simone's and Jeff Buckley's versions of Lilac Wine. Both fantastic.
And Buckley's cover of Cohen's Hallelujah is also pretty fabulous.
Puss
I enjoyed The Wallflower's version of I'm looking through you which was originally a Beatle's song
well, now i'm going to have to look up jeff buckley's Hallelujah. because my favorite cover is Allison Crowe's recording of that song. Here's her youtube video. this is her live recording from a christmas CD called "Tidings". It makes me shiver. I bought it off iTunes about 30 seconds into watching the youtube version.
I had heard Sonic Yuth's cover before but never knew who did it. Now I can download the sucker. The drummer DOES look like Gates. It was distracting!
Thanks...
One of my current favorite covers is David Cook's version of First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.
