It's close to midnigiiiiht...hee hee!

The novella Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is one of my favorite Stephen King stories, and the film adaptation, starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, wasn't bad at all, in my opinion. I really liked that movie.

The following video of an unusual aspect of prison life probably won't win any Oscars, but that doesn't take anything away from its WTF factor and its ability to induce a few hiccupy giggles.

A few things I should probably mention:

  • I would've titled this post "Thrilla in Manila," except that this didn't happen in Manila. The correctional facility in the video is located in Cebu, which is in the southern part of the Philippines.
  • I don't know why the heck they did this, nor do I really care. I just thought it was very funny! I couldn't help laughing -- after picking my jaw up from the floor.
  • Impersonating zombies sure seems like a welcome change from the usual prison activities, such as making picture frames, wood carvings, and shell handicraft. Oh, and beating each other up.
  • Yes, she is really a he.
  • Grazie mille to Gumby for letting me know about this video!

Ha! That's just too funny. I'm going to have to tease David and Jonbon about this one. David and Jonbon are two of my employees that came from the Phillipines this year. David bartends in our Lounge, and Jonbon (J.B.) waiters in our dining room. Whenever 70s or 80s music comes on David will start singing to the lyrics, and if the dining room is not too busy, I can often catch J.B. dancing by himself. Hmmm, now this video explains a few things. (Ha! I'm gonna have soooo much fun with this)

And I thought it was a scene from Prison Break Season 3. =)

thanks for ur comment to my recent post, lizza. never akong iiyak dahil lang sa literal na pagkakadapa. pero like you, in the figurative sense, *sigh* iyakin ako. in making wrong decisions, mahirap talaga makabangon. senti mode?

btw, i also laughed about that Cebu jail prisoners' newest hobby. Dancing is really fun, especially when you see them taking it too seriously. Career-in daw ba ang pagiging zombie? You're right, I also see this new gimmick as a good alternative of their old activities.

Haha I love it! Thanks for sharing the video. It's nice to see they're expelling their energy in there in more fun and creative ways. I wonder who choreograhped them. And was the trannie an inmate too?

Awww. this is so cooooool!

These guys should get straight out of prison and come to Bollywood. this is JUST the sort of thing we like seeing in our movies.

I mean it's so cool it isn't even funny.

[well perhaps you have to see a bollywood film to appreciate what I'm saying]

;-)

HB: Haha! We have dibs on Thriller...let them do Billy Jean or Beat It. ;-D

Nice: They also did something from the movie Sister Act. :-)

Photo: And watch the show's ratings either zoom to the heavens or take a nosedive. :-D

Christine: Glad you enjoyed it. I would think the tranny was an inmate too. And I have no idea who choreographed it.

H: I've never seen a Bollywood movie, but I think it's high time that I did, sis. Give me a title and I'll try to find it online.

Nice!!
BTW - I'm doing a Shawshank Redemption thing in the FuelmyBlog forum at the moment trying to create the world record for the longest thread - actually don't bother it'll take you too long to read it all, it's nearly a hundred pages already.
Quick precis - locked in a comment cupboard and I've created a wormhole to my secret blogging facility behind a poster of Uma Thurman using nail extensions. Usual stuff.

When I saw this my jaw dropped too!
It is funny...and I'm wondering why they did this?

I couldnt get past Rita Hayworth. Nothing like a sexy, drunken 40 and 50's starlette. Mmmmmmmmmm. Cheers Lizza.

Kyels: Hope you had a good laugh because of it. :-)

Nursemyra: I've seen it on a few other sites too. Glad you liked watching it again!

DaddyP: Haha, really? That I must see. I hope you get into the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest forum thread ever!

Odat: I don't know why they did it either. But someone told me they're working on a production of Ice Ice Baby next. Hahahaaaa!

Matt-man: Rita Hayworth sure beats the likes of Paris Hilton, Rachael Ray, and Lindsay Lohan. :-D Cheers!

I found that disturbing, and yet I watched the whole thing.

Go figure.

That was strange and very funny. My older son, who finds Michael Jackson bizarre but entertaining, watched that clip with me and was creeped out by the guy who played the girl character. And when I commented that I didn't think you'd ever see that in an American prison, he said, "If that was an American prison they'd be ebating the crap out of each other."

My husband and I totally cracked up while watching the video. Ibang klase talaga ang Pinoy! ;p

Lizza, I thought you might be interested in this. My good friend Marga did a piece on this story, she flew to Cebu for it and texted me to have a look. Check it out here:

Travis: It's a bit surreal, I know. But I've been informed it's a regular activity at that prison.

CS: I guess beating the crap out of each other happens in most prisons, including the ones here. But this is such a novel thing, and they seem to like it.

Irene: Sinabi mo pa! Ibang klase talaga. :-)

Christine: Thank you! That was enlightening. Sikat na sila ngayon all over the world. :-)
